Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - 24 June 2026: As Southeast Asia's digital payment ecosystem continues to expand, organizations face an increasingly complex challenge: securing payment environments while keeping pace with evolving security standards, technologies and compliance expectations.
Addressing this need, QRC Assurance And Solutions hosted the Kuala Lumpur edition of the QRC SEA Trust & Compliance Series 2026, bringing payment security, cybersecurity, risk and compliance professionals together for an exclusive one-day executive workshop focused on “Navigating PCI Security Standards.”
Held at Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown, the workshop moved beyond a conventional standards overview to focus on how organizations can interpret and apply PCI Security Standards across real-world payment environments.
Turning PCI Requirements into Practical Payment Security
The PCI Security Standards ecosystem extends well beyond PCI DSS. Organizations operating across payments may encounter different requirements depending on how payment data is processed, how PINs and cryptographic keys are protected, how payment applications are developed, how authentication is performed and how cardholder data environments are designed.
The Kuala Lumpur workshop therefore took an ecosystem-led approach, covering key PCI Security Standards including:
- PCI DSS – protecting account data across payment environments
- PCI PIN Security – strengthening PIN and cryptographic key security
- PCI P2PE – protecting payment data through validated point-to-point encryption
- PCI 3DS – strengthening security across card-not-present authentication
- PCI Software Security Framework (PCI SSF) – addressing security throughout the payment software lifecycle
Alongside the standards themselves, discussions explored practical areas including payment security, audit readiness, scope reduction and securing the broader payment ecosystem.
Expert Perspectives from Across the Ecosystem
A key strength of the Kuala Lumpur edition was the diversity of expertise brought into the room.
QRC extended its appreciation to the distinguished speakers Akshata Bhaskar Bele, Izatul Farah Mansor, Dr. Peter Leong and Siraj Jalil, whose sessions and perspectives helped connect PCI requirements with the operational realities faced by organizations.
The discussions created space for participants to examine not only what individual standards require, but also how organizations can approach implementation more effectively across technology, governance, risk and compliance functions.
Siraj Jalil, President of the Malaysia Cyber Consumer Association (MCCA), subsequently shared his positive feedback on the PCI Security Standards session, reinforcing the value of industry-led discussions in addressing evolving security and compliance challenges.
The series also received positive feedback from Alain Boey, COO of Citadel Group Sdn Bhd, following the Kuala Lumpur session.
Beyond Compliance: Addressing Real-World Implementation
One of the defining themes of the workshop was the need to view PCI compliance as part of a broader payment-security strategy.
Organizations frequently need to answer practical questions around PCI DSS v4.0.1 implementation, PIN security, encryption, scope management, audit readiness and fraud resilience while operating increasingly interconnected payment infrastructures.
This was reflected in attendee feedback following the event. Mohd Ali Hanifi Abd Hamid of Bank Rakyat Malaysia highlighted the workshop's focus on PCI DSS v4.0.1, PIN security and encryption, as well as the opportunity to discuss real-world implementation challenges and fraud resilience with fellow risk, compliance and cybersecurity professionals.
Such exchanges are central to the purpose of the SEA Trust & Compliance Series: creating an environment where standards can be discussed in the context of the operational challenges organizations actually face.
Strengthening Payment Security Through Regional Collaboration
Southeast Asia's rapidly evolving digital economy makes collaboration across the payment-security community increasingly important.
As payment channels, software platforms and digital services become more interconnected, maintaining security requires coordination across technology teams, business leaders, compliance professionals, security practitioners, assessors and the wider payments ecosystem.
The Kuala Lumpur edition brought these stakeholders into a focused environment where practical experience could complement formal security requirements.
The event was organized in collaboration with QNA Marcom and QNA APAC, whose support contributed to bringing the Kuala Lumpur edition of the series together.
For QRC, the initiative reflects a broader commitment to helping strengthen cybersecurity and compliance capabilities across Southeast Asia through knowledge sharing, industry engagement and practical conversations around emerging security challenges.
Continuing the SEA Trust & Compliance Conversation
The Kuala Lumpur workshop forms part of the broader QRC SEA Trust & Compliance Series 2026, an initiative designed to bring industry leaders and security professionals together to exchange practical perspectives on evolving cybersecurity and compliance requirements.
As PCI Security Standards and payment technologies continue to evolve, organizations will need to look beyond point-in-time compliance and consider how security controls, governance, technology and assurance work together across the payment lifecycle.
The Kuala Lumpur edition demonstrated the value of bringing those conversations closer to the professionals responsible for implementing them.
QRC Assurance And Solutions looks forward to continuing the SEA Trust & Compliance Series and creating further opportunities for knowledge exchange and collaboration across the region.
